vibes for five playlist
The perfect way to set the mood for an amazing night out, or just a small break during the chaos of a tough day is a great song. With most of the world working against us when it comes to feeling relaxed, these songs paired with the refreshing taste of Take Five could be just the thing you didn’t know you needed right now.
Take Five presents our first Vibe for Five Playlist, a weekly roundup of chill singles from both new and established artists. Our playlist is meant for that quick break, so the total length will never exceed five minutes. Even if you have to lock yourself in your closet for some peace and quiet, these songs will have you dancing with your sweaters.
This first track, ‘Truth’ comes from British neo-soul duo Jungle, along with an impressive one-shot music video featuring elaborate dance choreography that I wouldn’t ever dream of attempting. The song features driving, poppy instrumentals, and is lifted by smooth and soulful vocals. If ‘Truth’ were a Take Five flavor, it would have the punch and smooth aftertaste of Cranberry Raspberry.
Jungle’s Third album, ‘Loving In Stereo’, is set for release on Aug 13th. If you liked this sample, check that album when it comes out, and their previous record, ‘For Ever.”
The new single from Cincinnati indie pop quartet ‘The Ophelias’ is worth a listen purely for the reminder that the violin is actually a cool instrument! Lead vocalist Spencer Peppet’s lyrics are equal parts funny, nostalgic and slightly melancholy without ever wallowing. The instrumentals will surely get heads bobbing, and the charming music video is likely to put a smile on your face. ‘Sacrificial Lamb’ is bright and uplifting, with a slight bitter cut that makes it a dead ringer for Take Five’s Lemon Lime Flavor.
If you liked this sample, check out The Ophelias’ album ‘Crocus’ releasing September 24th, and if you can’t wait that long give a listen to their excellent 2018 album ‘Almost’.
Total Playlist Length: 4m 59 secs
We’ve made it to the end of the Playlist with a whole second to spare! Use that second to get yourself another Take Five, take a deep breath or just dance a little more. We hope you enjoyed the first Vibe For Five, and stay tuned for more coming soon!
Ask Mr. Take Five
Take Five customer Christie asks this:
I planned a trip to Amsterdam for my boyfriend’s birthday last year, and for obvious reasons we had to cancel. His next one is coming up, and I want to make it feel special even if we can’t do everything we hoped. What do you suggest?
Ah yes, the much smaller tragedies of the pandemic: the plans that never were. Whether you’ve had to cancel a flight you’ve been holding onto for months, or drop out of brunch at the last minute because you could barely remember how to have a conversation, “Cancelling Plans,” is practically the theme song of the 2020’s so far. Now I’m not a qualified adviser by any stretch of the imagination, but I’m pretty gifted at having a good time no matter where I am!
Get to know your area! No matter where you live, there’s something out there you might not have heard of yet. Did you know that you can kayak on the Hudson River for free in New York City? Everyone knows Central Park, but there are tons of other beautiful free parks in all five boroughs that’ll really make you forget where you are for a moment. And if you live on the West Coast, well, you don’t need my help! There’s a gorgeous beach or National Park in every direction, so pick one.
Talk to him! We all love thinking we know exactly what our partners want and planning the perfect surprise, but everyone’s at a different level of comfort right now given what’s happening. If you talk to your boyfriend ahead of time, you’ll be able to find out if he would want to see a few friends, do something small just with you, or that he wants to rob a bank for his birthday and then you’ll have ample time to report him.
Don’t sweat it! Odds are, if you’ve made it through an entire year of quarantine with this guy, he’ll be happy doing just about anything with you. I recommend a [Insert delicious Take Five Cocktail / Food Pairing], and I’m man enough to admit that I love a good picnic! No matter what you have planned, the party you’ve imagined for him will absolutely help in combating the potential existential crisis that comes with a second pandemic birthday.
Good luck with the big day, and tell him Happy Birthday from your favorite drink spokesman for me. Unless he likes Mike’s Hard Lemonade, if so then get him out of my sight. In all seriousness, you two will definitely still have a special day together no matter how cool Amsterdam would have been. We’re all getting through this, five minutes at a time if necessary.
