End of Summer Vibe for Five playlist
With Fall almost upon us, I’ve been getting as much sun time in as I can handle. I figured I should share the love and find some of the best summer-y jams for the final stretch of the season. These songs are perfect specifically for the next day you’ve got some time all by yourself to really let loose and chill out. The only company you’re allowed is this playlist and a TAKE FIVE summer cocktail. Take your pick from their selection at www.takefivehardseltzer.com/cocktails
Our first track comes from a little known act out of New Zealand, you probably haven’t heard of her, she’s pretty underground. In Lorde’s first album release in almost four years, ‘Solar Power’, the short and sweet track ‘Dominoes’ may have snuck under the radar during some people’s first listens. A new version of the song was just released in the form of an amazing rooftop performance at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in New York City. Jack Antonoff provides backing guitar melodies that are so warm and sweet they sound like scientifically distilled summer vibes.
Singing casually but still perfectly in line with the guitar, Lorde glides through the song with lines that are somehow both melancholy and hilarious. In only two minutes, this song will make you truly wish you were on a sun-kissed rooftop thinking about the past. If you manage to watch this video only once without wanting to replay it, you probably qualify for some Olympic event.
This next tune is a funny R&B spin on a petty fight between two summer paramours. ‘How Much Can A Heart Take’ is by New Orleans artist Lucky Daye and features the supremely talented Grammy-winning singer Yebba as the girl calling him out in the first verse of the song. They also humorously groove and lip sync each other’s parts in the lyric video, showing that the two of them are having fun with the song ultimately. Despite the bittersweet lyrics about the end of a summer fling, the glossy and funky production keeps things moving at a great pace.
Lucky Daye and Yebba’s characters in the video clearly aren’t getting along and their relationship may be inching close to a ghosting, but they have incredible chemistry in the song itself. Both of their takes on the super catchy chorus will get lodged in your head. Just don’t sing along to the chorus too loudly in front of your partner unless you want them to think you’re using the power of music to start a fight. If you liked this outing, check out Lucky Daye’s ‘Table for Two’ EP.
That’s it for this Vibe for Five showcase. Both of these songs are good for much more than one listen, and will capture summer magic for you long into the cursed colder months if you need it. Both of these songs are both sweet and fun with equal tartness, so they are a great pairing with TAKE FIVE’S Cherry flavored hard seltzer, whenever you have the chance to enjoy them.
